Biogenic Building is an installation and part of the exhibition Age of Nature at the Danish Architecture Centre. What if architecture could follow the rhythms of nature, with life cycles that arise and pass away? What if its built body could return to the material from which it came, and in so doing rethink our dependence on resource extraction? Biogenic Building explores how the shorter lifespan of biogenic materials can be adapted and aligned with the lifespan of buildings.

The project explores this circularity through a series of biocomposites that blend local agricultural and aquatic biogenic materials into new material forms. From the papery to the earthy and stone-like, Biogenic Building asks what a biogenic architecture might look like, how it would function, and how it could decompose and return to the biomass from which it was created.
